The Garden Responds

Chapter 4 Segment 1 of the Sentient She Shed

The garden was different this time.

Not quieter. Not louder.

Just… aware.

Lila stepped into the Byte Garden, and the flash drives blinked faster. Not in alarm. In recognition.

She knelt beside one.

The soil was soft, warm beneath her fingers.

She didn’t speak loudly. She didn’t need to.

She shared a memory.

A moment of courage. A sketch she almost threw away. A truth she hadn’t told anyone—not even herself.

The flash drive pulsed.

The soil glowed.

And from it bloomed a flower—not made of petals, but of light.

It shimmered gently, casting a warm glow across the garden.

The mouse watched, paws clasped, eyes wide.

Lila touched another drive.

It blinked once.

Waiting.
