Chapter 2 Segment 4 of The Sentient She Shed

The door wasn’t made of wood.
It looked like it at first—planks, hinges, a handle. But as Lila stepped closer, she saw it shimmer. The grain pulsed faintly, like it was breathing. Symbols glowed along the edges, the same soft blue as the scroll.
She reached out.
The handle was cool, smooth, and shaped like a question mark.
She turned it.
The door opened without sound.
Beyond it, the air was different—thicker, quieter, like stepping into a dream. The walls were lined with vines that glowed faintly, and the floor was made of polished stone etched with paw prints and tiny glyphs.
The mouse followed, its spectacles catching the light.
The flash drive rolled in behind them, blinking slowly.
Lila stepped through.
The door closed behind her.
She didn’t feel trapped.
She felt chosen.
.
If you found a hidden door that shimmered like a dream, would you step through?
Or would you wait to see what it revealed from the other side?
